KEEPING A CLEAN HOUSE DESPITE THE CHAOS

Having children means there is always something to do, whether it’s homework, after school sports, cooking (breakfast, lunch and dinner), dishes, laundry or errands. Having children also means that there is always some sort of a mess (sticky fingers on the walls, crumbs on the floor…I could go on and on). I have four small children and trust me when I say there is always a mess. However, despite the chaos of life it’s important to me that my house is clean and tidy. I realized just how important having a clean home meant to me when we had our old house up for sale and the influx of potential buyers coming in and out everyday required our home to be top notch at all times. We were desperate to sell our home and I spent the majority of my days cleaning. It was exhausting, but it was then that I realized that the clean counter-tops, clean floors and clean windows made me happy…actually more than happy – it made me ecstatic. After we sold our home and moved I vowed to myself to always keep our new home clean and tidy just for my sanity! The biggest lesson I learned was that using high quality cleaning products like Windex® makes all the difference in getting the cleaning job done right and done right the first time.

CLEANING QUICKLY TO GET BACK TO SPENDING QUALITY TIME

Although I am a self-confessed clean house fanatic – it doesn’t mean that I like cleaning my house every second of the day. Friends ask me quite often about my “cleaning tips” and although I don’t have many tips to share, I do have a few important ones.

1. Clean often. It’s much easier maintaining the clean than it is cleaning a mess.

I found that when the cleaning supplies are convenient and they’re in the room you need them that I’ll clean more often and it’s not a big deal. If I’m in the kids bathroom and I notice a dirty mirror and I have 5 seconds before the timer goes off on the stove – then I clean it quickly!
3. Get the whole family involved. I know, I know, easier said than done.

We have started a little Eaglin family Friday movie night tradition, every Friday night we eat pizza for dinner and see a family friendly movie. It’s something the kids and I look forward to all week long and it’s a great way to end the busy school week. I plan ahead and get all of the house cleaning done on Thursday or Friday morning so that come Friday night, I’m ready to relax and see a movie!
