Halloween TV!
It’s the spookiest season of the year and in celebration of some good wholesome family fun and a few friendly scares, we had the opportunity to visit the sets of The Goldbergs and Dr. Ken at Sony Picture Studio’s to get a sneak peek of the upcoming Halloween episodes. Located in Culver City, the Sony Pictures Studio is an Academy Award winning, state-of-the-art visual effects and digital production studio (which I am sure you already know).
It was my first (ever) time visiting the Sony Pictures Studio’s and a touring television set and I was in awe. The attention to detail on both The Goldbergs set and Dr. Ken set was absolutely amazing. It was as if I was in a real apartment (just with stairs that led to nowhere and walls that moved on wheels instead). Not to mention getting a very early sneak peek of both The Goldbergs and Dr. Ken’s Halloween episodes was so cool! This is a sponsored post, all opinions are ours alone.
The Goldbergs
Hilarious comedy “The Goldbergs” contains and all-star eclectic cast of characters: Wendi McLendon-Covey as Beverly Goldberg, Patton Oswalt as adult Adam Goldberg, Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg, Troy Gentile as Barry Goldberg, Hayley Orrantia as Erica Goldberg, AJ Michalka as Lainey Lewis, George Segal as Pops Solomon and Jeff Garlin as Murray Goldberg. Written (kinda sorta but not really all that loosely) around Adam F. Goldbergs (creator, executive producer) childhood and his actual family “The Goldbergs”. The show finds the siblings fighting off huggies, snuggies, and nubbies as they navigate what it means to grow up as a Goldberg.
Sean Giambrone who plays Adam Goldberg gave us a personal tour of The Goldbergs set. It was a really cool experience. My impression of The Goldbergs set was an astounding collection of wallpaper, classic (and totally collectable) 1980’s toys and the raddest furniture you’ve ever seen. According to Adam F. Goldberg himself, a great amount of detail was spent getting the set to look just like his childhood home. He told us during our set tour that many (if not most) of the toys in Adam’s bedroom set were his real childhood toys and the drawings on the walls were his real childhood drawings. Crazy right? It’s got to be like an odd time warp every time Adam or one of his relatives visits the set.
Adam’s In Trouble With Beverly…
“Stefan King” is the name of The Goldbergs Halloween episode – Adam’s love of Stephen King inspires him to try writing his very own “horror” story in which the evil monster is oddly similar to Adam’s mother Beverly. After realizing the similarities, Beverly demands a rewrite only to realize that allowing her son to thrive and grow in his own way may be best. Meanwhile, Erica is desperate to find a date for the Halloween costume dance and forces Barry to go with her. It’s a hilarious episode that you cannot miss! The Goldbergs Halloween episode airs Wednesday October 26th at 8:00-8:30 ET.
Dr. Ken
After an amazing visit on The Goldbergs set and interviewing Sean Giambrone and Adam F. Goldberg, we headed over to the Dr. Ken set. Filmed before a live audience, the Dr. Ken set was set up more like a strip mall (bad analogy I know) where the room sets were side by side. The Goldbergs set was setup like a sort of choppy real house, where you had to walk through the “living room” and down a hallway to the “kitchen”. On the Dr. Ken set, we were allowed to freely walk around tour it for ourselves. I almost died of laughter while coming upon a side table with fake real mail on it and a bowl full of real junk (like keys, chopsticks, paper and plastic bits of whatnot) on the kitchen counter. Attention to detail like that on a television show where no one would ever notice is so awesome to me.
Dr. Ken features an all star cast, featuring: Ken Jeong as Ken, Suzy Nakamura as Allison, Tisha Campbell Martin as Damona, Jonathan Slavin as Clark, Albert Tsai as Dave, Krista Marie Yu as Molly, Dana Lee as D.K. and Dave Foley as Pat. Dr. Ken is a hilarious and heartwarming show about a loving (albeit sarcastically hilarious) family and their trials and tribulations as kids, doctors and people.
The Halloween episode titled “D.K.’s Korean Ghost Story” is really, really great a kinda scary. Designed to be as authentic as possible, on Halloween Allison is disappointed the holilday doesn’t seem to scare Dave anymore, meaning her little boy is growing up. Trying to help, D.K. tells a scary Korean gwishin (ghost) story to Ken and Dave. The entire Park family as well as the gang at Welltopia bring the gwishin story to life. The episode airs TONIGHT Friday October 21st from 8:31-9:00 pm ET) on the ABC Television Network! Don’t miss it!!
During our interview with the entire Dr. Ken cast, we learned that Ken Jeong is not only an awesome guy, but his mantra of bringing Asian American authenticity to the screen is his main focus. The Halloween episode is going to be an authentic Korean gwishin story with a really great moral to the story that everyone can relate to. It’s my new favorite show!
I had an amazing day visiting the sets of The Goldbergs and Dr. Ken and I hope you enjoyed reading it! This post was sponsored by the Role Mommy Writer’s Network.
