Elegance of Wood Grain
I have an affinity for all things handmade out of wood. There is an elegance to the grain and color in real wood that simply cannot be reproduced. Now that we have moved into our forever home and I am working on creating my dream kitchen I have found myself collecting as many handmade wooden kitchen items as possible. Los Angeles based The Wooden Palate is leading the way back to handcrafted wood. We received review items, all opinions are our own.
Handmade in Los Angeles
What was once a lumber store aptly named “Manchester Lumber” for over 30 years is now home to The Wooden Palate where wife and husband team are helping lead the LA revolution back to handmade. Eileen O’Dea (chef and yogi turned wood-worker) and Ryan Silverman (wood-worker to the stars) are bringing back the lost art of American craftsmanship, American ingenuity and American inspiration to culture barren LA with their amazing wooden works of art.
The Wooden Palate was born of the belief that every kitchen and home needs more bespoke wood pieces and that every chef should love the board on which they serve their creations.”
We let The Wooden Palate decide on which pieces to send us for review. To be quite honest, I often crack under pressure and the idea of receiving anything handcrafted out of wood and that gorgeous made it hard to decide on a piece. I was more than happily surprised with every piece that was sent and I fell in love with each one.
The Wooden Palate Juliette French Taper Rolling PinWe received a Salt Cellar made from reclaimed Atlantic City Boardwalk wood, a set of coasters also made from reclaimed Atlantic City Boardwalk wood, a Hive Rolling Pin made from black walnut and a Juliette French Taper Rolling Pin made from reclaimed Atlantic City Boardwalk wood. Which is my favorite piece? All of them, of course.
I recently made a homemade apple pie, a family favorite of ours and I used Hive Rolling Pin. Call me biased, but using such handmade elegance made the simple homemade apple pie taste even better. Each of The Wooden Palate pieces seem to add a rich authenticity to my home and to my kitchen that was somehow lacking before.
Timeless, Handcrafted Pieces
The Wooden Palate carries a wide variety of handcrafted wooden pieces from serving to entertaining all the way to furniture. I have several hundred favorite pieces such as the custom plates, the Framed Serving Board and the Michelle Entertaining Pedestal. My all time favorite is definitely the Redwood Slab Waterfall Table…it’s gorgeous isn’t it?!.
The Wooden Palate pieces are available in several Los Angeles area stores such as American Tea Room, The Malibu Colony Co, Serafina and many more. Of course, you can always shop online at The Wooden Palate.
