Are You Ready To Love Dinosaurs Again?
The Good Dinosaur was designed on the premise of primitive life on Earth where Dinosaurs never became extinct and instead coexisted with humans. In the parallel universe of The Good Dinosaur, the dinosaurs evolved into farming herbivores and carnivore ranchers and us humans are still prehistoric nonverbal nomadic cavemen. Unlike other classic Disney films of the past, The Good Dinosaur provides an exceptionally interesting twist where the main character is a little boy farming dinosaur named “Arlo”(voiced by Raymond Ochoa) and the main supporting character is a feral, nonverbal wild human child named “Spot” (voiced by Jack Bright). It’s quite simple a twist on the boy and his dog story, whereas the boy is “Arlo” the dinosaur and the dog is “Spot” the human. We were invited to a preview screening for The Good Dinosaur movie review, all opinions are our own.
The Good Dinosaur is a photo-realistic gorgeous film set alongside an ever present and ever ominous wild river and the audience follows along on Arlo and Spot’s adventure through harsh and scary terrain as Arlo overcomes his debilitating fear and returns to his mother a newer, stronger and more self confident young man. The Good Dinosaur is action packed and full of interesting characters.
In true Pixar Animation fashion, The Good Dinosaur touches on an underlying moral of human universal truths and it will enable you and your family to connect with the film in a heartwarming tale about overcoming fear and befriending an unlikely foe. Pixar is the ultimate master of creating films about friendship (with a bit of sadness too right?).
What I found to be the most profound about The Good Dinosaur was Disney/Pixar’s evasion of safe, happy themes to fulfill a film that goes back a bit to Disney’s roots where there is a great conquest and a very evil villain to overcome. Without giving any spoilers, The Good Dinosaur reminded me heavily of The Lion King and I’ll just leave it at that. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly did not dislike the film but I will admit that it took me a few minutes to get used to it. I would absolutely recommend it in a 3D theater for children over 7 years old.
The Good Dinosaur opens in theaters nationwide today.

What were your kids’ reactions? My older daughter didn’t like it – maybe because she “got” the emotional impact more than the younger ones.
Desiree Eaglin says
My 5 year old was terrified, my 3 year old loved the dinosaurs and my 8 year old thought Spot was funny.
