Potty Training…again?!
If there is one thing I know about potty training it’s that you need two reliable things: Lots of patience and lots of Charmin toilet paper. I have successfully potty trained three kids so far and now I’m in the beginning stages of potty training my fourth child. I may certainly not be an expert of potty training but I do know a thing of two about potty training success. Along the way I have learned that cheer leading, positive reinforcement, patience and lots of Charmin will go from diapers to potties in no time! This is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.
But How Do I Know If She’s Ready?
Knowing when your child is ready to start potty training may be the biggest hurdle. I know that my youngest child is just about ready because she seems to have a keen interest in doing everything that her big sister and brothers do. She may be only 19 months old, the youngest child I have started to potty train but I think she’s ready for the challenge! You’ll know when your child is ready too when they’ve taken an interest in what you do when you’re on the potty. You can start by having them sit on a potty seat at the same time as you! Then before you know it, you can start!
Easy Potty Training Steps
Once your child shows interest in learning how to use the potty, use these simple steps to for fast potty training success! Whether you use an individual potty seat or a little seat that goes on top of the big toilet, you can still use these same steps:
- Provide ample opportunity to use the potty
We typically take an entire week off of errands and activities to stay home and focus on using the potty. - Provide LOTS of water
The best way to ensure the need to go is to drink lots of water! - Provide LOTS of Charmin
When the going gets tough, Charmin Ultra Soft is there to make the tooshy comfortable. - Provide lots of cheer leading!
Dance and sing and clap and act like your child’s best cheerleader that you are. They’ll love the extra love and you’ll love giving it to them! - Provide lots of positive reinforcements
I like to give jelly beans to reinforce good potty going. One jelly bean for #1 and two jelly beans for going #2. Then when the child seems to get the hang of the potty you can slowly ease the positive reinforcements back.
Don’t forget to have loads of patience during the potty training time, there will be set backs and accidents but just remember that is ok! Rome wasn’t built in a day and kids weren’t meant to learn how to use the potty in a day either. Using disposable pull-ups are helpful during long car rides and nap time and bed times too. And my #1 tip for potty training success is: STICK WITH IT and DO NOT GO BACK. Once you start potty training do not give up! Do not surrender! No matter how hard it may seem or how many potty accidents there are just keep going because you guys can do it!
