Making it FUN
What is the key to get kids to do just about anything? Make it FUN, that’s how! From eating vegetables, taking baths, going to the doctor all the way to potty training I have had the most success with getting my kids to do these things by none other…than making it fun! Recently, we have underwent the arduous task of potty training our third child. And allow me to say by experience, that it doesn’t get any easier. Each child is unique and each child requires just as much patience and attention as the last. However, I have found that by using a few simple positive reinforcements (like, you guessed it…making it fun!) along with Pampers Easy Ups that kids can become potty crusaders in no time flash!
What is a Potty Crusader?
A Potty Crusader is a child that has master the potty!
To celebrate the Potty Crusaders of the past, present and future we threw a Pampers Potty Crusader party! And because I’m a huge fan of all things adorably themed, we had Potty Crusader juice boxes, Potty Crusader watermelons, oranges and decorations! The Potty Crusader kids of the past, present and future even wore special Potty Crusaders capes and they even got to eat hero dogs during our Pampers Potty Crusader party!
And that’s not all! We even made a “potty party room” complete with a streamer entrance, strobe lights and jelly beans! Because who doesn’t want to go potty in a party room?? Us moms had quite a feast as well because I made the most delicious pasta salad, croissant sandwiches, chips and iced tea!
I had so much fun planning our Pampers Potty Crusader party and even more fun during the party with our friends! We were so excited to have our best friends over (and fellow potty crusaders in training!) for our Pampers potty crusader party! During our potty crusader party we ate yummy food, played games in the backyard and read “You and Me Against the Pee” by Julia Cook and L. Jana, MD!
Our Pampers potty crusader was pretty neat because we had guests of all ages in all different potty training levels. The oldest party guest is a mastered potty crusader of over a year and she had loads of advice for the younger kids. Then we had two guests that are current potty crusaders in training and this party was made especially for them. My 3 year old son has mastered potty training at home, but he still has a ways to go for fully potty crusadership when we’re out and about. Lastly, our youngest guests will be potty crusaders in a year or so and so they have lots to look forward to!
Each of our Pampers Potty Crusaders guests got to leave with a very special gift thanks to Pampers! Each guest received a pack of Pampers Easy Ups and a copy of “It’s You and Me Against the Pee”!
My kids are unabashedly obsessed with funny potty humor and they have since fallen in love with “It’s You and Me Against the Pee”, I even caught my 4 year old reading to her younger siblings this morning!
Funny Mom Tips For Successful Potty Training:
Use a positive reinforcement treat that’ll work
– For my kids (who don’t get to eat very much candy) we use jelly beans as a positive reinforcement for successful potty use. They receive one jelly bean for #1 and two jelly beans for #2. Jelly beans are the perfect sized treat, especially at the beginning of potty training when they’re going frequently. As soon as your child becomes a fully mastered potty crusader you can ease out the jelly beans all together.
Give them JUICE!
– I have found that by practically drowning my children in juice (or water) they go to the potty more often therefore getting more practice. Sure, in the first few days of potty crusader training I practically live in the bathroom with them but that’s ok!
Make it a big deal!
– This goes without saying really, however every time your potty crusader in training uses the potty do a little dance, sing a little song, make a little noise and make it a big deal. We picked up a very inexpensive strobe light from the party store and my kids love playing it after a successful potty trip.
Make the toilet easily kid accessible
– Use a child potty seat and step stool. You’ll have to help your potty crusader in training for the first few weeks, but eventually with practice they’ll be able to go on their own.
Use Pampers Pull Ups
– Once you start teaching your potty crusader in training to use the potty get rid of diapers all together and don’t look back. There’s no use in regressing! Use a Pampers Pull Up which is a great, clean alternative to underwear especially during long car trips, naps and bedtime.
Be prepared for accidents
– No matter what, sometimes accidents do happen and that’s ok! We just need to stay positive and strive for a better potty crusader day tomorrow!
You see, potty training can be so easy when you make it fun. By using a small positive reinforcement treat like a jelly bean, singing your child’s praises and using Pampers Easy Ups you too will have a Potty Crusader soon!
