A Place For Everything – And Everything In Its Place
I first learned the concept of serious storage organization while in college at a job doing custom framework. It was there, under the scrutiny of a demanding manager that I learned when everything has a place that organization is key to successful workflow. All of the employees knew where to find the tools they needed when they needed them and that was monumental in getting things done quickly and efficiently. Now that I am a busy mom of four little children it would be too easy to allow the house to implode, there’s simply too much stuff and activity all of the time. Therefore I have implemented my older managers motto of “a place for everything and everything in its place” and although it’s not a completely well-oiled machine quite well (darn kids), the system works quite well for me in the kitchen.
Good Products Save Time!
Listen. We all want to save money and we all want to save time, so allow me to let you in on a little secret: buy the good products first. Ha! I have learned by trial and error that purchasing good products saves time and money (and not to mention saves from headaches too). There are few things worse than a trash bag that rips opens and spills hot, foul messes all over the floor or trash bags that rip when you try and pull them out of the can. Trash bags can be a pain! But not Hefty, they’re literally the only brand of trash bags that I will use because they are amazing. Hefty Ultra Strong has active tear resistant technology for better puncture resistance and that means no leaks! Hefty Ultra Strong bags are an outstanding quality at a new, lower price. Simple Kitchen Organization
In my opinion you can go out and spend a lot of money on gadgets and do-dads that’ll organize your closets, cupboards and drawers for you or you can put things away neatly and expect everyone to do the same. I choose to do the latter for now, perhaps a fancy do-dad or two will come in handy if I need to utilize the space in the future. However, for now the entire family knows where items such as the boxes of Hefty bags are kept because they have a place under the sink. The same place under the sink they’ve always had and that makes it easy for anyone taking out the trash.
Kids Chores
As soon as my oldest was able to walk and carry something in his chubby little toddler hands at the same time I had him doing small chores. I feel as though everyone should help out in the household. Not only do household chores help teach responsibility, it is also nice to get a break from taking out the trash all by myself everyday. Ha! My oldest does some chores to earn money. A few of the chores that he does to make extra money include cleaning the bathrooms and vacuuming out the cars. His regular chores of feeding the dogs and taking out the trash do not earn him extra money and I like it that way.
