Last weekend I went to the Bloggy Boot Camp Conference in Las Vegas with my friend and Inland Moms business partner Eva Smith and her lovely, fashionista daughter Denise Mitchell. They were both gracious and kind and claimed to not hear my monstrous lumberjack snoring. Which we all know is a big, fat lie.
The conference covered basic areas in blogging such as business of blogging, writers workshop, legal basics, blog design and developing a unique voice. More than any facts or advice I heard over the course of the day the most important piece of information I walked away with was this quote made by SITS founder Tiffany Romero herself: “You gotta live life to blog”. I have found myself neglecting my friends and my house and my kids and focusing all of my time and energy into this blog and the ones I contribute to that I have literally stopped living my life. I nearly fell out of my chair when Tiffany said it. Learning how to multi-task and allocate time for everything is something I am currently struggling with. Like, pathetically.
The conference was great, the time I spent with Eva and Denise was divine and I had a wonderful time.
Until I got home.
My damn baby didn’t get a damn bath for 4 days while I was gone. I walked in the door after 4 days and the house was D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G. like, you would have died. The floors were covered with crap, the counter tops were sticky and the baby stank to high heaven.
I dropped my bags, kissed my kids and started cleaning.
All that guilt I carried over the course of the weekend about leaving my family and trekking off to Vegas to network and learn more about blogging was relinquished the moment I got a whiff of that stinky baby.

LOL! I love this post. Not because little Evan was stinky but because I think we’ve all been there. Finding the balance. I struggle with this every day of my life. I sometimes wonder if I’ll ever have my s&$t together one day.

I came home to dishes that had been in the sink a week. 🙁 not all, but definitely some.

I loved that comment from Tiffany as well. Considering I don’t have much of a life, it really resonated with me and inspired me to get out more. Interestingly I’ve been constantly busy ever since BBC and now I can’t write. Hmmm. Baby steps, right? Balance? I dunno. I’m barely caffeinated as I write this comment. Oops.

So funny! Imagine if you’d left for even just a few more days — they’d have starved to death. Just kidding, but I bet everyone was super relieved to have you home! 🙂

I love it because I’ve been there. I went away for 48 once and my boys at at In and Out three times.

Love it. And while I commiserate with you on the mess you returned to, I loved the comment about living your life. Oh, boy, do I have work to do!

I seriously didn’t hear a thing. I’m a sound sleeper. We had the best time with you. Thank you for introducing us to Serendipity!

I thought I smelled something wafting over the mountains last weekend but figured a dead skunk was in the area. Must have been your damn baby.

Ha! Nothing like coming home to a stinky baby! I’m glad you enjoyed the conference. I wish I could’ve been there.

All work and no play makes mommy a dull chick.
