Now that my kids are getting a bit older I cannot wait to take them on family vacations around the country to go and see and do everything! To prepare, I have started to do research of different states and attractions I’d like to visit in the near future. This week, I am featuring the sunny state of Florida! So if you’re planning your travels this Spring, check out my must see attractions in Florida with kids.
With its theme parks, movie studios and entertainment facilities, Florida is arguably one of the world’s greatest affordable holiday destinations for families. On top of that, ‘The Sunshine State’ boasts a beautiful coastline that works nicely with its mild yearlong climate that rivals the So Cal coast.
Walt Disney World Resort
Your children may never forgive you if a trip to Disney World isn’t on the itinerary when visiting Florida. And besides, who doesn’t want to see the giant house of the mouse? It’s on my bucket list to visit WDW for sure. From going on Hollywood-inspired rides to meeting their favorite characters, this is an experience that you’ll never forget. Just make sure you’re well prepared beforehand: this particular attraction is twice the size of Manhattan, so you may need to do some priority planning to ensure your kids see and do everything they want.
The Kennedy Space Centre
Even though your children are bound to be grateful of a break from school, numerous opportunities exist to increase their learning while on holiday. In Florida, the Kennedy Space Centre is the perfect place for kids to discover more about the wonders of space. Your growing cosmonauts can step inside the Shuttle Launch simulator or see whether they’ve got what it takes with the Astronaut Training Experience. Alternatively, the hands-on and interactive Angry Birds Space Encounter will provide a bit more entertainment for young kids unfamiliar with space exploration. I know my kids would love it there!
Everglades National Park
In addition to its man-made attractions, Florida has various natural wonders to explore, which kids like mine would find the open space enthralling. The Everglades National Park is the largest sub-tropical wilderness on US mainland and plays host to some incredible flora and fauna. If your children get lucky, they may be able to spot protected endangered species such as the Green turtle, the Key Largo Cotton mouse and the America crocodile. You may also want to go on a canoe or airboat ride, but remember to drink plenty of water and regularly apply sunscreen, as things get hot in the swamp. Bonus? You’ll be able to come home and tell friends you went to a swamp!
Along with these options, you can choose to snorkel at the Biscayne National Underwater Park, watch a NASCAR race at the Daytona International Speedway, eat at any number of family-friendly restaurants or simply chill out on Florida’s 700 miles of sandy beaches. The only drawback of going on a family holiday to Florida is finding the time to experience all of these amazing and alluring attractions.
So who’s ready to start packing for Florida? I know I am!

I live RIGHT on the Space Coast and while you’re right on the money with all of those suggestions for a Florida vacation, you forgot to mention to people the costs of these vacations…
With WDW raising their prices to $100 per person and not including for food and lodging or any souvenir’s…
And that’s just of course for just 1 park…
And coming from someone who was raised on the Space Coast where the Space Center used to be FREE and you could go in and walk around ANYTIME and just explore to now having to pay, just to walk through the doors, it comes as a shock to the system as well…
You used to be able to pick and choose which things you wanted to go and see and do at the Space Center OR buy a pass and do them ALL…
But for locals it was nice because we could just go and walk around and explore the Rocket Garden or take a bus tour, etc… We didn’t have to do the entire thing if we didn’t want too…
