Have you been to Pretend City Children’s Museum yet? If you haven’t, you must go. Pretend City is the epitome of a kids dream, the apex of a kids heaven, the pinnacle of kids fun, the crown jewel of all crown jewels in amazing kids playgrounds. Located in Irvine California, Pretend City is a entire kid-sized city within an industrial warehouse. Set up just like a city with kids scale buildings which are all workable and all in integration with each other, going to Pretend City is one of the best experiences you will ever have.
The center of the city is Orange Plaza, around which the streets circle. Within the city is a art studio, library, post office, health center, cafe, marina, fire station, dispatch office, police station, gas station, beach, home, theater, amphitheater, construction site, bank, farm and grocery store.
Art Studio
The creative child’s dream! Each day, Pretend City hosts different artful crafts and projects from clay molding, coloring to painting. Let your projects dry as you discover the rest of the city.
Library
What child doesn’t love to read or to be read to? Stocked full to the brim with books and reading spots, the library is a quiet little haven within the busy, bustling Pretend City. Your child can even play librarian and help guests “check out” books.
Post Office
Do you have a little sorter at home? Kids can stamp letters, sort and organize. There is even mailboxes located throughout the city to send mail, collect mail and distribute the mail as well.
Heath Center
My 2 year old daughters favorite location within the city, kids can dress up like a doctor or dentist and examine patients. There are examination tables, xray’s, stethoscopes and more.
Cafe
Currently undergoing a Wahoo’s Fish Taco’s update, the cafe is part kitchen with everything a kid would need to create meals and part cafe where waitresses/waiters can “serve” the customers.
Marina
Prepare to get wet! The Marina offers water play with pretend fishing, air flow direction (create your own sailboat and maze and use air flow to push it through the water!) and a general splashy good time.
Fire Station – Dispatch – Police Station
Do you have a little rescuer at home? They can dress up and save the day at Pretend City!
Gas Station
Fill er’ up and go for a ride! All throughout the city are ride on cars for kids to drive on the city streets. There are even parking spots in select locations.
Beach
Did you know you can go to the beach within a building? Well, at Pretend City you can! Parent’s can sit back and relax on the Adirondack chairs while kids dig in the sand and build sand castles to their hearts content.
Home
A complete miniature sized home complete with kids bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom. Each month a new local family is featured on the television located in the living room that teaches kids about different cultures right in their neighborhood.
Amphitheater
Do you have a little star on your hands? The Amphitheater was made just for them! With lights, music, costumes and a stage built for a star, kids loooooove the opportunity to show off what they got!
Construction Site
Build a house, create a drainage system! This exhibit is perfect for the hands on kids that love to build!
Bank
Make sure to grab a time card at the gateway and as you visit each exhibit, kids can “work” the exhibit and then stamp their time card. At the end of a very long play day, kids can go to the bank and cash in their time cards and receive real play money! This was my 6 year old’s favorite activity. He worked through about 3 time cards because he wanted more money!
Farm
Hands down my favorite exhibit, the Farm allows children to “pick” fruit from the trees, “harvest” vegetables out of the ground and see real live baby chicks. Once the fresh produce is ready, kids can take it to the grocery store located just next door.
Grocery Store
The aisles are complete with boxed and canned goods where kids have the opportunity to the grocery shopping for once. There is even a produce scale and sandwich making station!
Infant Areas
There are specific infant areas located throughout Pretend City that are specialized for the younger pretenders. With soft toys, padded walls and baby fun these area’s are GREAT for your baby to play as your big kid is nearby.
Two New Exhibits Premiere July 2nd 2013!
Always changing and growing just a real city, Pretend City’s is undergoing some changes of their own!
The Cafe
Wahoo’s is taking over the cafe, check out all the stickers! Bring your little’s cook up some of their favorite fresh fish tacos today.
The Our Home
etnies is taking over the home exhibit to give guest a peek inside the Senizergues family’s home and tells the story of how Pierre-Andre Seinzergues, owner of etnies uses his action sports background to influence active living with his family.

We’re already going tomorrow so thanks for the coupon! We LOVE going and my four boys (1, 3, 5, 7) all adore it. My only desire would be that it were closer (Irvine is about 30 mins for us)and that the family year pass were cheaper (you pay by kid and I have a lot of them!) Great detailed review though!!
