A Dark Shadow Was Cast…
A shadow was cast over Legoland, California on Wednesday March 4th during the unveiling of the Death Star. The newest and largest Lego model in Star Wars Miniland is comprised of over 500,000 Lego Bricks, spans over 13 feet high and 8 feet wide and weights over 1900 pounds. The Death Star was the Empire’s ultimate weapon a moon-sized space station with the ability to destroy an entire planet in George Lucas’s popular Star Wars movies. Although there were several versions of the Death Star in the films, the Lego Star Wars Miniland Death Star is designed from the Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Alongside the Death Star exhibit are 6 animated Turbo Laser Turrets and LEGO starship models built out of more than 20,000 LEGO bricks. The kids and I were invited to the Death Star unveiling, all opinions are my own.
An Ominous Presence
The Lego Star Wars Miniland has been a popular attraction for families at Legoland California since it opened in 2011. The Star Wars Miniland consists of 7 of the most famous scenes from the 6 Star Wars movies as well as a scene from the animated series Star Wars: the Clone Wars. The exhibit is compromised out of 1.5 Million Lego bricks built in a 1:20 scale. There are also life sized Lego models of Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Darth Vader. Designed in such a way that families are invited to follow a chronological path through the Star Wars timeline, along the way are interactive buttons that allow families to activate animations throughout the scenes. The Lego Death Star is a perfect addition to the Lego Star Wars Miniland, while it casts an ominous presence, it’s interactive abilities and starship animation had my kids captive attention.
Build Your Own Starship!
In the shadow of the giant Lego Death Star, families are invited to use their imaginations to construct their own Lego starships at interactive building stations all while X-Wings, TIE Fighters and Y-Wings circle overhead. During the unveiling, kids of all ages made large and small versions of their own Lego starships to save the galaxy.
Iconic Star Wars Film Scenes…Lego Style!
Underneath the galaxy’s most powerful ultimate weapon are Lego models depicting iconic movie scenes. My favorite was the scene below, the walls were closing in!
