A New Hat
These certainly are interesting times we are living in. The Stay at Home initiative has suddenly and drastically impacted everyone’s lives. Just like you, I have had to transform myself into a full time home school teacher, a profession or “hat” I never thought I’d try. Between keeping up with a tidy home, cooking what feels like 10,000 meals a day and making sure each child is completing their distance learning activities I am more often than not…completely pooped by the end of the day. That is why I look for activities that my children can do with little to no supervision. This is a sponsored post on behalf of Juicy Juice, all opinions are our own.
The Great Pause
I read on social media someone refer to the Stay Home Initiative as “The Great Pause” and it made me look at our pandemic situation in a new light. Instead of feeling like I am forced to stay within the confines of my home by demand, we are as a nation instead…taking a great pause. A pause from the everyday hustle bustle of life. We are released from the stresses and the “go go go” attitudes to stay home and focus on ourselves and our families.
This new outlook on our current situation has allowed me to take a deep breath and appreciate my health and family. Without the burden of everyday busy-ness stressors, I am able to focus on my children’s home school education. It’s been quite a remarkable time.
Keeping the kids happily busy during Covid-19
Even if families worldwide are taking “The Great Pause” and releasing everyday busy-ness stressors, we parents still need to find simple and fun activities for our kids to do. Kids are a bottomless pit of energy and their boredom knows no bounds amiright?
Recently, my mom sent my children a huge box of sidewalk chalk. Despite their vast age differences this box of sidewalk chalk captured their attention for an entire afternoon. Before I knew it, they were asking for snacks and beverages to nosh on while creating their “art”. This simple box of sidewalk chalk kept them happily busy for hours on end.
Here are a few simple ideas to keep your kids busy:
- Stock up on sidewalk chalk and let the kids go nuts one day
- Set up friendly competitions such as “Best sidewalk chalk animal” or “Best sidewalk chalk game” and award a winner
- Challenge your kids to create giant works of “art”
- Do Math assignments outside in chalk!
- Create mosaics in chalk along your sidewalks
- Create uplifting sayings for your neighbors
- You can even use sidewalk chalk in the rain. The colors are more vibrant!

Happy & Hydrated
Since my children were spending hours outdoors under the So Cal Spring sun, I loaded them up with tons of Juicy Juice waters to help keep them hydrated. They love drinking them almost as much as I love giving them to them to drink. The organic Juicy Juice waters are simply: water with a splash of flavor with no sugar, no sweetners and no high fructose corn syrup.
So while my kids made miles of acres of sidewalk chalk art and snacked and drank Juicy Juicy waters, I was able to sit back and take a deep breath and truly appreciate this Great Pause.
In what ways are you taking advantage of The Great Pause?
