Sure our world has become smaller with the invention of social media. Virtually connecting with a friend anywhere in the world is literally instantaneous. These online connections, the ones we make with people-that-live-inside-the-computer, seem real. They seem genuine. But until you meet that person-that-lives-inside-your-computer in the flesh, are they real?
We’re social animals as you know and as our futures zoom into the Wall-E type future it’s my belief that we’ll still manage to find ways to connect. A group of individuals on Instagram have started to create Instameets. Much like a tweet up, a Instameet is an opportunity to gather in the flesh with the people-from-inside-your-computer to meet, to take pictures and to put a real life image to the instagram icon face you know. These iPhoneographers are creating more than just an instameets, they’re creating real life human interactions.
Last Saturday, Tee O’Connel of That’s IT Mommy, Adrienne Van Houten of Adrienne’s House and Kim Tracy Prince of House of Prince and I met up to attend the first ever #Griffith_Instameet. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we were up for anything that came our way. We were up for an adventure.
The #griffith_instameet was cool and casual with a definite hipster vibe. We met up on the front lawn in front of the iconic Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles where name tags were handed out and a variety of group photos were taken. Including a #Deadstagram, cleverly thought up by one of the organizers. The #deadstagram from my perspective:
The girls and I had a blast. We didn’t meet to many new people but we did savor this experience as an adventure for the books. After the instameet we headed to Los Feliz for dinner and window shopping. It was a great day to be alive.
A few of my favorite shots I took at the instameet:
These instagram photos are mine. You steal them and I will cut you.

Definitely looked like a fun outing. Well, any photo adventure is a fun outing but getting together with people that share the same interest makes it even more fun =)
Adrienne says
I[‘m so glad you invited me to tag along.

LOL at the “These instagram photos are mine. You steal them and I will cut you.” Love it!
That entire event looks like fun! I came across one jerk who said, “Instagram is for losers.” Well, I got news for ya buddy. With stuff like this it proves Instagram users are anything but losers. So cram it where the sun doesn’t shine!
Viva la Instagram! Haha.
