I avoided the Twilight Saga movies like the plague, the teenage hysteria surrounding the movies and the actors playing the characters turned me off. Then one fateful Saturday night while living the hotdamniness lifestyle of a mom (that means I was at home in bed by 8pm on a Saturday ya’ll) I watched Twilight because it was the only thing on, or so I convinced myself. I was hooked, hopelessly, pathetically, irrevocably hooked. The next day I claimed we were out of trash bags (we weren’t) so I could go to the store. I bought the rest of the movies and I waited patiently for Breaking Dawn 2 to come out and I ran to the store the morning it came out to rent it from Redbox. I told you I was pathetically hooked right?
I decided I wanted to read the books. The books are always better anyway. I went to the store on Sunday to buy just the first two, but came home with the entire series.
This week’s Wordless Wednesday theme is “stop and smell the roses” with the prompt of “What are some things or thing that you missed or spotted during your most unconscious moment?”
I love reading. I love reading so much that I become completely engrossed into the book. I don’t eat. I don’t drink. I don’t sleep. I don’t work. I throw granola bars and juice boxes at the kids for breakfast and I just sit and I read. And read. And read. And read. And read until the book is done.
I haven’t read a book in about a year. It’s hard to throw granola bars and juice boxes at a baby that still needs to be fed by hand. I took my chances and I started reading the first book Sunday evening. I was done by noon on Monday. The kids are fine, they’re fed healthy granola and yummy juice and happy.
In my reading lust I realized that reading makes me feel alive, it makes me feel more like myself and it makes me happy. Not working, not being on the computer, not being wrapped up in other people’s facebook drama made me stop…and smell the paper scented flowers.

Total guilty indulgence!

You are the wind beneath my wings. Sign me up for a Twilight movie marathon with you. I’ll throw stuff to the baby.
Desiree Eaglin says
Omg, lets do it!

I’m still not interested in the Twilight saga, but I can totally relate to the thirst of reading a book. Puzzles and books — I can’t stop until I’m done. Most of the time. Great use of the prompt! 😀

thanks!

I hate hate hate hate and point and laugh at the movies with all my heart.
But I agree with you about the books. Exhibit A:
“And I would like to say here, for the record, that Ms. Meyer single-handedly revived my love of reading and music in one fell swoop.” http://www.kimtracyprince.com/2009/02/jones/

I read the first book and now I’m half way through the 2nd. I’d be finished with it already if I didn’t have a full day. This is the first time I’ve ever seen the movie first and then read the book. So far, I like the movies more. Perhaps it’s my infatuation with Edward, but I do wonder how I would feel if I had read the books first.

I am an avid reader. I consume books more than alcohol. Yes this is true. I love books, reading and everything about it. Always. I throw granola bars and juice boxes too! Having said that I refuse, and I mean refuse to read those books. Sorry, but I have to draw a line. I want to formally welcome you back to the land of readers. It rocks!
Desiree Eaglin says
So far, I would say that the books are simple, easy reads. Perfect for a quick fix.
Kim Tracy Prince says
In my defense, my book club made me do it.

What Candice said: ” I consume books more than alcohol.” Definitely true for me as well (although I’m not much of a drinker), and I really can’t fathom my life without books in it. I’m also with Candice in refusing to read these PARTICULAR books, but reading about other people’s reading always makes me do a happy dance :-D.
Desiree Eaglin says
Happy dancing woo!

I avoid those books and the movies like the plague. I read a few chapters once at a local Barnes and Noble and had to stop. The writing was too blah for my tastes (snob much? lol). I can definitely understand why people read it. It’s simple and it’s an easy read. And believe me, I do understand guilty pleasures.
In one of the forums I occasionally frequent I actually read a post by someone who said she looks down on people who read Twilight even going so far as to unfriend them for it. I had a huge “WTF?!” moment on that one.
Personally, I may not like the books and movies or have any interest in them but I am not about to snub my nose at anyone who does. I’m just glad to see people reading no matter what it is!
Desiree Eaglin says
Judgmental books snobs! Ha!

I know the feeling about the movies. I watch the first two at the theathers because if my daughther, then she list interest so we didn’t even buy or watch when they came out, but at Christmas break same thing happend to me and I was nit gay that the last one had not been release on video yet…so I waited too and yes I got it too. I enjoyed them and also I’m enjoying reading…I too feel guilty when there us so much others things to do, buyer we definitely ned time to our selves and many times we dont get it. So enjoy the time you take for your self and that would make your kids happy because you are happy
Desiree Eaglin says
I think it’s a good thing you’re one of my favorite people in real life Judith. This comment is hardly understandable! 😉 Ha!

So funny! My friend Kim sent me your post because we have unknowingly been living parallel lives. 🙂 Same thing for me…NEVER had an interest in Twilight until a month or so ago when FX had the first three on. Watched all three, had to immediately buy the 4th, and then impatiently waited til March 2nd when I was able to reserve the final movie on redbox at 6 am that morning. 🙂 I have since watched them all over and over again while my kids nap in the afternoon, disregarding bills and laundry…yes, a problem! I admit it! On vacation now and almost done with first book in one day. Thank goodness a close friend, another twilight junkie mom like me, ran the next two books over to me before we left for our trip. So, you are not alone!! If you read online why moms like us are obsessed, it’s pretty funny and interesting. It could be a huge psychological case study! 🙂
Desiree Eaglin says
I’m happy to hear I am not alone! Actually, Honestly I’m trying not to psychoanalyse myself on the reason why I am obsessed actually. But I do wholly understand the allure. 🙂
