45 Years of Hungry
The preschool classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar written by Eric Carle is celebrating it’s 45th anniversary this year. Since its publication in 1969, 36 million copies of The Very Hungry Caterpillar have sold worldwide and it has been published in 55 languages, that’s a whole lot of years in a whole lot of languages of hungry. We received a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar for review purposes, all opinions are my own.
The classic story in The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows a very hungry little caterpillar on his transitional way to becoming a beautiful butterfly is an endearing and enveloping story that my children adore. The bright colors in conjunction to the wisely used wording and clever pages makes The Very Hungry Caterpillar a timeless classic.
Why after 45 years, we are all “still hungry” for the classic
We can agree that The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a timeless classic that can be passed down to generations to come but did you know that The Very Hungry Caterpillar also promotes healthy eating habits? It does! Not to forget to mention, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is also visually appealing, written specifically for young children to understand, is a great first reader book and also helps children learn how to count.
What I love the most about The Very Hungry Caterpillar are the visually dynamic illustrations. The bright, bold use of primary colors are just in my opinion, perfect for capturing young children’s attention.
Raising Children With A Love Of Reading
One of my goals as a mother is to raise my children with a sincere love and appreciation for reading. Growing up, my mom always had a book in her hand and she read to my brother and I often. I make an honest effort to read to the kids every evening before bed and I read books as often as I can.
How I know that my children love to read is that they read to each other. Now that my oldest who just turned 7 is a profeicient reader, he reads to his younger siblings. It is quite endearing to see. As the picture above shows, now my 3 year old daughter has started to “read” to her little brother. She chooses books like The Hungry Caterpillar that she knows well. As you can see, he was very engrossed in the story as she read.
