As many mom’s schedules are my daily schedule is busy and chaotic – sometimes by choice but mostly just because that’s the way life is with kids. Since my children’s needs come first more often than not my own needs get neglected. I cannot even tell you how many times I have left the house without having eaten breakfast. Without a nutritious meal, I often feel slow and lethargic like I’m trudging through sand trying to get through the day with 4 kids in tow. That is why I have learned to always keep high protein snacks in my diaper bag for on the go snacks such as the best nutrition bars, nuts, cheese and of course plenty of water. Having these few high protein snacks can make all the difference in my mood and attitude throughout the day.
As I tell many of my brand new to mommyhood friends – our needs as moms should come first. Just like in a air plane crash (so dramatic I know, sorry) we have to put on our air masks first before we secure masks on the people with us. Basically a happy mommy is a happy family. I don’t know about you, but when my blood sugar is low because I haven’t eaten I am one grouchy mommy and no one wins so I try and always have good on the go snacks to make sure I am well fed and happy too just like the kids are. But not just any food filler snack will do, you really want something nutritional. High protein snacks such as #BarNutrition nutritional energy bars are an ideal way to receive the calories and nutrition we need to get on with our day.
Through several years of mom trials and tribulations I have learned that some peanut butter energy bars are better than others, I prefer Life Choice Energy Bars from Walmart. Life Choice Energy Bars are in the cereal section of Walmart, so you know they’re bound to be tasty. What I like best about Life Choice energy bars is that they don’t taste like the stereotypical energy bar (in other words: they don’t taste like particle board), they are soft and chewy and quite yummy. I pack them in my diaper bag when we are out for a day adventure and sometimes I’ll have one in the middle of the day while the kids are napping to give my body a boost. With a perfect balance of 7 grams of protein, carbohydrates and whole grain oats, these naturally flavored bars give me all the energy I need to get through the day.
