Some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood are of cooking in the kitchen with my mom and my aunts. Mostly done around the holidays, I vividly remember baking cookies and pastries and washing dishes. Now as a mother myself, I love spending time in the kitchen with my own children. So far, my daughter has expressed the most interest in baking, my oldest son has expressed the most interest in washing dishes and my youngest son has expressed the most interest in eating whatever we give him. Haha – I’ll have all the bases covered with whatever we do in the kitchen!
Raddish Monthly Subscription Box Gets Kids & Parents Cookin’!
Raddish is a monthly subscription box delivered right to your door that enables kids and parents to get together and cook something healthy while learning healthy eating habits.
Raddish believes in the power of food to bring people together and to cherish the time we share at the table with family and friends.
Every monthly Raddish box includes illustrated family friendly recipe guides, skill cards to help families learn culinary basics, creative activities, list of required groceries for the meal and a Raddish patch to be ironed-on to the Raddish apron, which comes free with a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription so you can collect a new patch each month. Subscriptions start at just $20 a month (for a 12 month subscription)!
Each included activity in the Raddish box incorporates math, science, nutrition, geography, culture and history in no better natural learning environment than your very own kitchen! We received a complimentary Raddish box for review purposes, all opinions are my own.
Raddish, created by former middle school teacher and mother Samantha Barnes is designed to get the entire family excited about cooking and eating together. Samantha believes tasks as simple as washing and peeling vegetables can empower kids and get them excited to eat wholesome foods.
Be Prepared For Fun!
An email with the shopping list will be sent 1 week before shipping so that when the Raddish box arrives, families can cook right away. A new theme each month is designed to keep children engaged and ideas fresh, including seasonally relevant concepts such as the Olympics for February 2014 and “Green” for April.
With our complimentary Raddish box, we chose to make the “no bake apple tart”. I did the chopping and smashing, my 3 year old daughter did the mixing and stirring and my youngest son did the eating and all together we had a great time.
I genuinely appreciated the clear and easy to follow visual instructions and I love that the included recipe cards are laminated. That way, we can use them over and over again and they will not get grimy from handling them in the kitchen.
The included activity cards and crafts are also brilliant and I loved that the activities strengthen Raddish’s motto of “togetherness” around the dinner table. The “Table Talk” cards were my favorite. Made of thick cardstock and attached to a metal ring, the “Table Talk” cards asked questions like: What are you thankful for today? Who is the silliest person you know and why? I just loved that.

My fondest memory in the kitchen is laughing around the dinner table with my whole family while my sister stabbed her dinner with her fork and sang “Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit…” But then again, we were delightfully dysfunctional.

As much as I always hated making meatballs for my mom (because it would get my fingers all sticky and slimy!) at the same time I loved it! and looking back it’s definitely a favorite memory. It was something my mom and I did all the time together 🙂
