As a mom it is really against the rules of motherhood to admit that you have a favorite child. To clarify, I love each of my children equally. Unconditionally. And without question. And each and every one of my children are extraordinary in their own unique way. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for my extraordinary little baby-faced-peanut-head bubba who just turned two in May. My bubba is extraordinary and all-consuming. Perhaps it is his extra needs like his restricted diet and extreme needy and clinginess that has inherently made me favor him more. Or perhaps it’s because I know that he will always be with me, even after he has a family and children of his own. My baby-faced-peanut-head is just so very special to me.
My bubba is a bit of a daredevil and at the age of two he already has two chipped front teeth. His crooked toothed smile warms my heart.
My bubba isn’t entertained by watching television, he loves following me around the house. He toddles behind me everywhere I go and he is always with me. My bubba helps me take out the trash, feed our pets, empty the dishwasher, load the dishwasher, sweep and so much more. He just loves to help, he reminds me of his grandpa – my husbands dad in this way. Always moving and always eager to help unconditionally.
My bubba’s big warm helping heart is so profound that he helps even when no one is noticing. He will bring his siblings things when he thinks they need them, like a blanket to keep warm, a cup of juice when it’s hot and a pacifier when the baby is sad and these little gestures are so quiet and mostly go unnoticed – to everyone but me.
What makes your kid extraordinary isn’t just the epic stuff. It’s the little things. The small moments that maybe only you see and quietly celebrate every day.
