Once upon a time I dreamed about being the kind of mom that made homemade Halloween costumes, created gourmet meals from scratch every morning, noon and night and sang lullabies to soothe her children to sleep after another blissful day of parenting.
And then I actually had children.
You know how the story goes, right? We all intended to be this fairy-like image-of-perfection parents, but life got in the way. Between school, errands, homework, sports, chores and so much more there’s never enough time to do everything we want to do everyday. That’s why I have learned to cut corners. I still love and adore going out of my way for my children. Seeing them happy makes me happy. But to be honest, I just don’t have the time, energy or willpower to go all-out-nuts over every little thing.
When my youngest started Kindergarten, I wanted to do something special for her to give her a little smile during her school day. I went onto Pinterest and looked up ideas and I was blown away by the creativity of the moms out there. But like I just said, I ain’t got time for that! So I realized that a black sharpie, a plain brown paper sack and 2 minutes of my time is all I would need. Waahla! The snack bags are unique!
I have drawn cats (her favorite), bees, butterflies, sun’s, clouds, rainbows, dogs and now that it’s almost Halloween: bats, spiders, pumpkins and ghosts. I always incorporate her name into the pictures some how. She loves, loves, loves her snack bags and I love that it’s easy and simple to do.
Being a school all day works up a thirst! For awhile, I was packing her juice pouches in her snack bag until I realized they weren’t quenching her thirst. There was just too much sugar content.
Juicy Waters
Juicy Waters are just that – water with a splash of flavor with no sugar or sweetners and no high fructose corn syrup. And it keeps my daughter hydrated during her school day.
They come in 3 flavors: Orange, Fruit Punch and Strawberry Watermelon. My kids favorite flavor is Strawberry Watermelon, and the cute pirate octopus is just too cute!
In my Kindergartners snack bag, I always pack two snack “options”. One option will be a fruit. Such as strawberries, mandarin oranges or sliced apples. The other option will be a grain. Such as wheat crackers or mini muffins. Paired with a Juicy Juice Juicy Waters and this Halloween school snacks is the best snack for her and the easiest for me! And I can’t get over how cute the little spider is anyway!:)
