Funny Mom Judith and her girls had the opportunity to attend an early screening of Early Man. Now in theaters, Early Man is a fun and uplifting film for the entire family. Read more about Judith’s experience!
Enter the Stone Age
Early Man is a goofy, British, stop-motion, sports, comedy by the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit, about a rag tag tribe from the stone age who discover that they are a relic in the new Bronze Age. They are violently removed from their peaceful valley by bronze miners looking to dig more ore to fund the lavish lifestyle of their greedy governor Lord Nooth. When Dug, the main character, is separated from his tribe and accidentally brought to the Bronze city he discovers Football ( soccer for us Yankees). Football is worshiped by the people of the Bronze city and Dug decides to challenge the local team in exchange for his valley back. Lord Nooth, hoping to make a fortune off the match against the Brutes agrees. Dug goes back to his tribe and with the help of Goona, a Bronze women with dreams of playing in the big leagues, teach the motley crew the art of the game, and of teamwork. With a thrilling ending that had my kids at the edge of their seats, Early Man is truly a footballmatch for the (stone) ages.
Never Give Up…and other important lessons
The importance of teamwork, integrity, and hard work are prevalent throughout Early Man. Dug, Goona and the gang are faced against impossible odds yet they refuse to give up. Early Man has all the spirit and excitement of a more traditional sports drama, but the distinctly English humor had kids snorting and adults chuckling. And simplified but unflinching commentary on greed and corruption in the modern sports industry did not undercut the love shown towards soccer by the creators, but actually reminded us that playing fair and with sportsmanship will always be the most important aspect of any sport.
Duff’s Cake Mix FTW!
After the Early Man screening, we were bused 10 minutes away to Duff’s Cake-Mix for a delicious lunch and more importantly; cupcake decorating! The girls got to decorate 4 cupcakes each, two to look like Hognob, Dug’s adorable tusked sidekick and two however the girls pleased. The girls had a blast decorating the cupcakes, they got to release their creative sides, and were subsequently covered in frosting. The professional decorators were amazingly helpful teaching them how to pipe icing, shape fondant and create edible masterpieces that were devoured 20 seconds after getting home. The girls even got to take home some of the beautiful balloons that served as a background to our sugar-fueled creations. Thank you so much to the London West, Duff’s Cake-Mix and Aardman Studio for an incredible day. It was a little epic.
