I had the most amazing opportunity to attend the press conference of Disney’s Maleficent Mistress of Evil. Held on September 30th, 2019 at the Montage Beverly Hills, the press conference was an astounding experience I won’t soon forget. All opinions are my own.
First, the details…
Disney’s newest featured film, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is the 2nd installation of the Maleficent franchise (gasp! is it a franchise? how dare I be so bold to assume!). Maleficent Mistress of Evil will be in theaters nationwide on Friday October 18, 2019.
The Mistresses
Being in the same space as so much female talent was almost too much to handle. Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and of course, the “og” mistress: Angelina Jolie were as stunning in person as they are on the big screen. What surprised me the very most about being in their presence was how down-to-Earth and “real” they all seemed to be. I genuinely left the conference feeling as though I had just had a fabulous conversation with a friendly (albeit insanely beautiful and ridiculously wealthy) neighbor.
Best yet, the ladies seemed to have really bonded over the time they spent filming Maleficent Mistress of Evil. The ladies had an ongoing joke about going bowling together. Shhhh…apparently Michelle Pfeiffer felt left out of bowling so they made a vow to go together for the next round! They teased each other relentlessly and it honestly made my morning.
A Piece Of Motherly Wisdom Amongst All The “Evil”
As most everyone knows, Angelina Jolie is a true humanitarian at heart. However, what she doesn’t often show publicly is how thoughtful and dedicated a mother she is to her children. She told us members of the press at the conference a short story about her oldest son going away to college, that was as heartwarming as it was relatable. I mean, so, so, so relatable. The story went like this: Maddox was getting ready to go away to college and the week before he had to leave, he and Angelina spent a lot of time together. You know, buying dorm necessities and things. Angelina had assumed it was because Maddox was sad about leaving home. On the day of his flight to leave for school, Angelina was so touched when he gave her a very big hug that seemed to linger on and on and on. It wasn’t until Maddox asked Angelina if she was ok, and if he could let go that she realized that all that time they spent together the week before wasn’t for Maddox at all, but for her. She exclaimed that she was so proud of the man that Maddox had become to know when his mother needed a little bit more time with him. AWWWWWWWW!
How does this story tie into the film? I have no idea honestly, perhaps it has something to do with Maleficent having to let go and trust her child to make their own best choices (No. Plot. Giveaways!).
The Global Meaning of Acceptance
In Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, two families that do not have much in common are forced to compromise and find a middle ground. As Angelina Jolie said during the conference, that the ability to accept one anothers differences is more necessary now in todays global community like never before. Without giving too much plot details away, I hope you go and see Maleficent Mistress of Evil for yourself on October 18th!
