A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the press junket for the new hit comedrama “Delivery Man” which is set to hit theaters tomorrow November 22nd 2013. To say I was beyond excited is an understatement. I mean, opportunities like these come once in a lifetime. To sit in the same room as the funny man Vince Vaughn, hunky Chris Pratt and sweet Colbie Smulders AND get to ask them questions that they’ll actually answer? Sign me up!
The press junket took place in the fabulous Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Having never been in such a fancy smancy hotel in Beverly Hills nor anywhere else on earth-I was just as excited to set foot in the hotel as I was to see the actors in real life. I was also anticipating the kinds of fellow journalists that would be in the press room.
To my delight, the fellow journalists had a kind of genuine, happy camaraderie I hadn’t seen in any other group besides mom bloggers (who, lets be honest not only am I a big part of but also solely who I hang with at events). I met Michael Choi, producer at ScreenSlam who was warm and friendly and uber cute (don’t tell him I said that). As we were chatting another male journalist joined us, who turned out to be none other than Nick from US Weekly (he had warm hands).
Delivery Man, a comedyrama stars Vince Vaughn as a adult man-child who finds out he has accidentally fathered by sperm donation 533 children, Vince’s big, lovable, “uber-dad” best friend Chris Pratt and Vince’s girlfriend Colbie Smulders. My favorite scenes from the film all involve Chris Pratt who played a big, lovable, devoted dad with a sense of humor I haven’t seen in a film before. It was a kind of silent non-verbal humor that had me laughing uncontrollably. When you see Delivery Man for yourself this weekend, watch for the orange post it notes, tiny bathrobe and super tight suit, then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
Chris Pratt, a break-out Star
Chris Pratt was funny, charming and attentive during the press junket. So much so, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him (it didn’t hurt he is damn fine either). At one point during the press junket, a journalist asked if the stars hang out “during their off time”. In a candid moment, Chris Pratt replied that the industry in which they are all lucky and fortunate enough to be a part of is kind of like a circus. Where they will have these gatherings, like the production of a film or the press coverage after a film where they all get to gather and see each other again and it’s as if nothing has changed. Then he said – which I love – “I just pull into town and do all my tricks and my faces”. Too funny. Chris Pratt also compared being a journalist, a media journalist specifically I assume to the same kind of “circus”. Where we only see each other during events and junkets and it’s fabulous when we do.
Chris Pratt also said that his father was a rather large man and as a child Chris never understood why his dad’s bathrobe was always tied above his big, giant belly. Then, during shooting of Delivery Man Chris was given a bath robe for the kitchen scenes with Vince Vaughn and the robe was so small that it should have fit Colbie Smulders instead. When he was in his dressing room he stood in front of the mirror and realized that the only place the robe would tie was above his belly. He immediately had a flashback to his childhood and his father.
