Mom! I’m Hungry!
We here at the Eaglin household are officially submerged into the belly of the school summer vacation beast. With four little kids at home, life can get a little tricky. The calm and quiet of the school year quickly vanishes for starving children that can’t seem to entertain themselves. I mean, if I’m not paying attention I could spend a tropical vacations worth of cash just on summer vacation snacks. These kids never appear to ever get full. Fortunately for both my husband and our bank account I smartened up about 3 years ago on ways to overcome the summer boredom and the fierce summer snack attacks. And I am more than happy to share a few key tips and tricks with you today. We are Juicy Juice Ambassadors, all opinions are our own.
Summer Vacation Tip #1
Keep plenty (and I mean plenty) of Juicy Juice boxes in the fridge. Preferably in a location that the kids can get to themselves. The less you have to stop what you’re doing to help them the better. And it teaches them independence and self control or something.
Summer Vacation Tip #2
Tip #2 goes along with Tip #1. Along with having plenty of Juicy Juice in stock, creating a healthy snack drawer is the best thing I’ve ever done to save my sanity. We have one of those refrigerators that has a large waist-level drawer that’s perfect for this exact reason. Inside the drawer, I have placed a variety of healthy snacks and the kids know they are able to help themselves to the snacks and Juicy Juice boxes. I feel completely comfortable allowing my children (ages 10, 6, 5, and 3) to help themselves to the Juicy Juice/snack drawer in our fridge because it is 100% juice with no added sugar.
Summer Vacation Tip #3
Without fail somewhere around the third week of summer vacation, my kids suddenly get “bored” of all of our disgusting food. I mean, bagels are pretty awful (insert eye roll here). So on days that really require extra mom magic help I like to create healthy, low fat, fun breakfast dishes. Just like this one that I am aptly calling “The Cars 3 Red Light Breakfast”. By turning a square plate sideways, chopping up strawberry, banana and kiwi and naming it a cool dish name, my kids suddenly had the best breakfast ever.
Summer Vacation Tip #4
With the absence of a school schedule and all those learning expectations during the summer vacation my kids get uh…a little lazy. Therefore I could use all the external motivation I can. So I have created a reward system. Every week of the summer vacation my kids have somehow managed to not only not kill each other but also to complete their chores they get to see a movie in the theater on Friday. Or every other Friday if my budget is tight. It’s a great way to manage behavior! Cars 3 is now in theaters and if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you do!
