“We owe this, to everyone who’s not in this room, to try.”
“We will…whatever it takes.”
Funny Mom Blog contributor attended the Avengers ENDGAME press conference and it sounds like it was ahhhmazing! Read more about her day now:
Just two weeks ago, I was invited to easily one of the most amazing opportunities – the press conference for Avengers: Endgame, hosted by Marvel Studios. Hosted by Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, an executive producer of Endgame, and not to mention, Happy Hogan himself and in the flesh.
Everybody was waiting anxiously for the junket to begin – who was going to be attending? Would we be able to piece things together to get any closer to knowing what happens in the movie? Everybody was grasping at straws until we saw the curtains drop.
Half of the seats were empty, with just a handful of familiar faces – each of the survivors of the snap. “Well, clearly things look a little different in a post Infinity War Marvel Cinematic Universe,” explains Jon. “Post snap, there’s a few empty seats.”
- Robert Downey Jr. (“Tony Stark / Iron-Man”)
- Chris Evans (“Steve Rogers / Captain America”)
- Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”)
- Scarlett Johansson (“Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow”)
- Mark Ruffalo (“Bruce Banner / The Hulk”)
- Jeremy Renner (“Clint Baron / Hawkeye”)
- Brie Larson (“Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel”)
- Don Cheadle (“James Rhodes / War Machine”)
- Paul Rudd (“Scott Lang / Ant-Man”)
- Karen Gillan (“Nebula”)
- Danai Gurira (“Okoye”)
- Directors Anthony & Joe Russo
- Producer Kevin Feige
Moderator: Jon Favreau
After taking a moment to rearrange themselves in their seats, it was time for the questions.
One of the funniest moments of this junket came early with Jon asking Robert Downey Jr., “Would you like the fans to call this film Avengers: Endgame? Would you prefer them call it Infinity War 2, Avengers 4, or perhaps Iron Man 22?”
As we all know, Robert Downey Jr. was who it all started with, when the first Iron Man came out in 2008. Jon asked Robert where he wanted to see the character go in an arc, and how he approached building the character. Robert answered,
“There is always two tracks at least in my mind. One is the sky is falling, and the other is the sky is the limit. And as we had those many discussions in the high desert and shooting the film, I’m reminded now that I was talking a lot of smack, saying ‘wait until you see where this goes.’ But in the moment, I was just hoping day to day we were making good scenes and getting good stuff in the can. And the usual gobbledy-gook. I just wanted to not drop the ball.”
Following that, a conversation got started about games of Boggle. The whole cast started talking about how Don Cheadle often wins the games, followed by Paul Rudd. Eventually, Chris Evans tells us how Don found the word “avengers” in the game, and Mark Ruffalo found the word “asbestos.”
This conversation led into another with Jon asking Mark if this cast feels like a family by this point in all of their lives. Mark answers, saying “It doesn’t feel like family to me because we all really get along well. There’s not that much drama. It does feel like family. It’s a family that you wish you had in a way, I don’t know if you can tell.”
Once we got into members of the press asking questions, one of my favorites that really stood out came early – asking for a show of hands of who prefers bearded Captain America over clean shaven Cap. We find out Chris Evans, Paul, Jeremy Renner, and about half of the cast prefer bearded, while the other half, including Karen Gillan and Kevin Feige, prefer clean shaven. Personally, I’m a fan of the beard, and I hope more of you are as well. Robert also tells us how in the shawarma scene after the first Avengers, Chris Evans had a beard but couldn’t shave it at the time, and needed to wear a prosthetic over it to look clean shaven. Time to go double check and see if I’ve ever noticed!
Another really interesting question, that provided us with a short but sweet answer, was asking the Russo brothers for one single word to describe this movie. First, they said “epic.” However, a few minutes later, they changed it to “cathartic.” Remember everyone, bring your tissues. That’s all that means to me.
This junket was truly the opportunity of a lifetime. I’ve been a fan of the MCU since the original Iron Man, same as many others, and I cannot wait for Avengers: Endgame to open in theaters everywhere this Friday, April 26th. I know that we’ve all been waiting for this on the edge of our seats, but remember, #DontSpoilTheEndgame!
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?), or if you just feel like watching it again…and again…and again, in anticipation like me, then check it out here below!

I am so jealous. Of everything I have seen of the press tour these are some amazing people and being able to listen to them talk about these amazing movies must have been so much fun.
