Get Ready – Avengers: Age of Ultron will be smashing across theaters nationwide Friday, May 1st 2015. I was honored to attend the press junket for the newest Avengers film and let me just say it was amazing!
Stars in attendance were:
· Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man”)
· Chris Evans (“Captain America”)
· Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”)
· Scarlett Johansson (“Black Widow”)
· Mark Ruffalo (“The Hulk”)
· Jeremy Renner (“Hawkeye”)
· Cobie Smulders (“Maria Hill”)
· Elizabeth Olsen (“Scarlett Witch”)
· Aaron Taylor Johnson (“Quicksilver”)
· James Spader (“Ultron”)
· Paul Bettany (“Vision”)
· Joss Whedon (Director)
· Kevin Feige (Producer)
It’s easy to see that this press junket was certainly star-studded to the max. I could hardly contain my excitement, I was bouncing in my seat! I got to the press junket, which was held at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California early enough to snab a front row seat to the jaw-dropping actor display. There was an excitement in the air that I have not yet experienced at a press junket. Some members of the press were excited to see the male actors and I was most excited to see Scarlett Johansson in person and yes, she is just as beautiful in real life as you can imagine. Although she looks slightly perturbed in the photograph I took below, she was quite happy and almost shy! That is the legendary Joss Whedon beside her.
I have yet to have attended a press junket that was boring and stiff because the press junkets I have been invited to attend have all been lighthearted and fun, all the actors in each of the films have been jovial, however the Avengers Age of Ultron press junket was extraordinary. The actors laughed at each other, poked lighthearted fun and had a general merriment in their demeanor. It was amazing to watch firsthand.
My favorite moment of the Avengers Age of Ultron press junket took place about 5 minutes into the 20 minute session. After several questions were asked Robert Downey Jr was asked a question and he had this to say: “I must be mellowing with age, but I want to say this very clearly. The next time I’m not asked the first question, I’ll f___ing walk out.” Which of course, the entire room busted out laughing. He is one very funny guy.
Then Scarlett Johannson was asked a few questions and she responded very thoughtfully about her character in the film.
Question: We’ve seen Black Widow not only evolve depth-wise but we see her role getting larger and larger as the cinematic universe progresses to the point that we see her play such a significant role in Age of Ultron. Talk a little bit about where you see Black Widow even going from here, once we get to the end of this film.
Scarlett Johannson: in the beginning of Avengers 2, there’s some sense finally of there being a kind of normal, it’s a well-oiled machine where we are tag teaming each other, it’s finally, like, the introductions are over and we’re at work, we’re digging our heels in, and at the end of Avengers 2, I think Widow has let her guard down, she was hopeful for something. I think she had this moment of false hope where she kind of felt like there should be some kind of personal payoff and she was ready to accept it and she realizes that her calling is a greater one and that’s not necessarily something that she’s thrilled about, but that’s kind of what is most heroic about her is that she’s accepting the call of duty, even at her own personal loss. And I think it’s an interesting place to kind of leave her there, because there’s many different directions to go. I mean, is she going to be able to withstand this huge weight that’s bearing down on her or is she going to crack under it, and sort of crumble not being able to take this huge hit, this huge personal hit that she does? But I guess we’ll have to wait and see, right?
And without spoiling the entire movie, I will end it here! Avengers: Age of Ultron is a must see movie that I absolutely urge you to go see – it’s opening nationwide May 1, 2015!
