Devon here! Ant man and The Wasp Movie Review
If you asked me to rate every Marvel movie in order of my favorites, I’d say it was impossible. But getting the chance to see an early screening of Ant-Man and the Wasp, this movie has shot so high up the hypothetical list. It comes out in theaters everywhere today, July 6th, so everybody definitely needs to go see it as soon as they have a chance. In the meantime, however, continue reading this review to find out how I feel about this hilarious movie!
The movie starts with our charming yet mischievous Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd) doing his best to finish his punishments for what happened after the events in Captain America: Civil War. Scott has been a boy scout, doing everything he can to make his daughter proud and be able to get back out into the real world. All of that changes with a [not so] simple dream, which I won’t spoil for you here, and soon enough he’s thrown right back into his shenanigans.
One of my absolute favorite things about this movie is the amount of character development that has clearly taken place in between this movie, the events that occurred in Civil War, and especially since the events of the first Ant-Man film. In this movie, we start to see Scott owning, while also finding ways to progress and move forward with his life. On the other hand, we see Hope van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly) also moving forward. When we first met her in Ant-Man, she was working to prove that she was fit to wear one of these suits. In this movie, she’s finally given the opportunity she’s been working for to prove herself and boy, does she ever. Her skills have improved tenfold as she’s working side by side with her father, Dr. Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas), on this huge project involving Janet van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer); Hope’s mother, Hank’s wife, and also known as the original Wasp herself.
Besides even the character development though, this movie is full of total gold. Unique growing and shrinking action scenes, filled with witty one-liners and shocking twists the entire film, this entire movie keeps you on your toes, wondering what’s going to happen next. There’s never a dull moment, especially with characters like fan-favorite Luis (played by Michael Peña) filling time with his mile-long stories, threats like Ghost (played by Hannah John-Kamen) who make you emotional and understand this antagonist, and Bill Foster (played by Laurence Fishburne), who is an old friend of Hank’s and is caught in between what he wants and what Ghost wants, constantly feeling torn.
Honestly, this movie is one of my favorites in the MCU right now, and I just know that everyone reading this will love it too! Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out in theaters everywhere today, July 6th, and I personally can’t wait to go watch it again.
