Eating. It’s What They Like To Do.
What is the deal with kids and the constant snacking? It seems like the only activities the Funny Kids like to participate in are: eating, video games, eating, eating, eating and more eating. Have I mentioned that they like to eat? Trying to get the Funny Kids to actively participate in their virtual school sessions has been a challenge. Do you know why? Because all they want to do is eat! Thankfully, now that school is back “in session” the Funny Kids teachers have created a clear “no eating” during virtual school time rule that is helping to save my sanity…and my bank account. Now their constant snacking has a schedule that I can work with!
Scheduled Eating FTW
The three youngest Funny Kids are attending the same Elementary School and they are on the same break and lunch schedule. That means making snacks and lunches for them is easy…ok, ok… “easier”. The Funny Kids have always been huge fans of Bento boxed lunches. Bento boxes are a great way to provide a controlled amount of colorful foods in tiny compartments. Each of the Funny Kids have specific likes and dislikes and I have found that the compartments in Bento boxes are a great way to give them what I know they love and to offer new foods for them to try. Below is a list of fruit, vegetables and other snack ideas that I try to always keep on hand for lunches and snacks.
The Funny Families “On Hand” Snacks
String Cheese
Grapes
Berries (strawberries or blueberries)
Oranges
Fish crackers
Cheese crackers
Lunch Meat (sliced ham, turkey or salami)
Cucumbers
Baby Carrots
Celery
Mixed nuts
Easy enough right? With these food items always on hand, it’s easy to quickly whip up a Bento box lunch. Typically every Bento box lunch is going to have 1 fruit, 1 vegetable, 1 protein, 1 grain, 1 dairy and 1 sweet treat. I like to give the kids a few small marshmallows or a small cookie as their sweet treat. And of course I always include their favorite Juicy Juice! Not only do the Funny Kids love Juicy Juice, but I love it too. It has no added sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, and is an excellent source of Vitamin C for busy back to school days. It also provides one cup of fruit in every 8 oz serving.
Not Breaking The Bank
Serving the Funny Kids a cute put together Bento box for lunch during their virtual school day makes them happy. It also honestly helps to distract them from the oddness of this school year. But best of all…serving them lunch keeps them out of the cupboards and eating all the time! This is a great virtual school lunch idea that won’t break the bank!
BTS Thankful
The Funny Kids and I are thankful for the ability to go back to school this year. We may not exactly enjoy virtual school and the Funny Kids may be trying to eat us out of house and home, however we’re still thankful for the amazing teachers trying their best to educate them. That is why we have nominated each of their teachers in the Juicy Juice 100% Thankful contest!
