For many of us, grogginess or lulls in energy throughout the day is commonplace most especially as parents of young children. More often than not, these low-energy days are a result of restless nights without a quality snooze and general parent sleep-deprivation. It goes without saying that sleep is vital, not only does sleep contribute to a myriad of health benefits but it’s also key in memory and recall…now where did I leave my keys again? Oh yeah, I was talking about sleep. As a mom of four little kids I have found that these 5 simple tips have helped me tremendously to get the best sleep of my life. BONUS: A Custom Comfort Giveaway! This is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.
5 Tips To Get The Best Sleep Of Your Life
1. Use Cotton Bedding
Cotton is an all natural, hypoallergenic fiber that is ideal for sleeping in. Using a higher threadcount cotton sheet will mean that the weave is tighter and will have stronger durability. Using 100% cotton sheets will mean that your bed sheets will withstand years of washing because it’s recommended to wash your sheets once a week!
2. Wear Comfortable Pajama’s
Leave your silk negligee aside ladies, the best night’s sleep is just a warm, cotton pajama wearing night away. Cotton pajama’s can play a dual role: Protect you from the heat of the summer and cold in the winter. Since cotton’s many fibers trap air between you and the cotton, that layer of air can either warm up and keep you toasty, or flow freely to keep you cool. A mattress made with natural cotton will act in the same manner—keeping you comfortable no matter the season.
3. Use Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a great way to relax before bed. Natural oils like Lavendar have properties that assist our bodies in relaxation. Oil diffusers turn the aromatherapy oils into mist, turning the whole room into your own personal therapeutic sanctuary. Not only will the aromatherapy help you relax, but diffusers also gently humidify the room–allowing you to breathe easier all night as well.
4. Ditch the Electronics
We are a society with our smartphones and tablets permanently glued to our sides. Most of us are guilty of scrolling through our emails or browsing Facebook in bed. Not only do electronics stimulate our brains (making it harder to sleep), but these devices also emit blue light. Recent research from Harvard and University of Toronto found that light in the blue spectrum acts on our bodies by suppressing natural melatonin. Since melatonin is the hormone that induces drowsiness, delaying its release means more time spent awake and greater difficulty getting sleepy.
