July 29th is National Lasagna Day and in honor of the cheesiest day of the year, I decided to share one of my favorite cheesy recipes. Although I do love a good homemade lasagna, I opted to share my absolute favorite 5 cheese ziti al forno recipe instead. I promise you, the whole family will love it!!
Made With Love And Cheese
I adore the saying “Made With Love And Cheese”. Because lets be honest, every good dish starts with cheese. Lots of cheese. This recipe for 5 cheese ziti al forno is nothing short of made with lots of love and cheese!
5 Cheese Ziti Al Forno Recipe
Ingredients
For the ziti sauce:
4 cups plain tomato sauce
2 cups Alfredo sauce
1/2 cup skim ricotta cheese
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
3 tablespoons shredded fontina cheese
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
For the ziti topping:
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
3 Tablespoons grated Romano cheese
3 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 large clove chopped fresh garlic
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
3 sprigs chopped fresh Italian flat-leaf parsley
Also:
1 pound dry ziti pasta
Directions
Preheat oven 375 degrees
Prepare the ziti according to package directions.
While the water is boiling, prepare the ziti sauce.
Prepare the ziti sauce:
Combine all ziti sauce ingredients in a large bowl; cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Prepare the ziti topping:
In a medium sized bowl, combine all of the ziti topping ingredients. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
When the ziti pasta is cooked according to package directions (approx. 10 minutes of rapid boiling). Drain cooked ziti pasta. Spray your dish lightly with cooking spray. Pour 1/2 cup of prepared ziti sauce into your prepared dish. Pour hot cooked ziti pasta into ziti sauce bowl and stir. Spread ziti topping over the pasta and sauce mixture evenly.
Cook at 375 and bake until top is golden brown and cheese is bubbling, about 35 minutes.
Remove and serve immediately.
